Ayurveda & Journaling: How They Work Together To Improve Health

Over the years, I have developed a clear and compassionate understanding of life through the lens of Ayurveda.

I hope, with a full heart, that my work inspires you to explore and experience the astonishing benefits of Ayurveda for yourself.

Ayurveda is full of incredible secrets and great wisdom.

As well as practical advice on health and happiness, and deep spiritual guidance too.

Ayurveda is based on nature, but it’s also to do with understanding ourselves.

We might define Ayurveda as a science of life, but what it’s really inviting is an inward journey to a place of complete self-understanding.

Through Ayurveda we can understand ourselves completely. We can learn about our strengths and weaknesses, how we fit into the world, how our mind works, and how to achieve a full and abundant life.

But how does Ayurveda know so much about life and about us?

Ayurveda is based on deep observations of nature and takes the view that people are a part of nature too.

Our physical form, emotional being, subtle mind, and spiritual essence, are all aspects of nature – that’s what Ayurveda really teaches us.

By nature, yes, I mean trees and roots, and so on. But I also mean the more spectacular phenomenon of nature – like firefly light, thunder and lightning, flower symmetry, luminous sunsets, cosmic shooting stars, and invisible antagonistic forces.

When we liken ourselves to those aspects of nature, we realise – we are amazing!

So, where does journaling fit in?

Our entire galaxy is made up of different, often opposing, qualities.

Journaling about those qualities harnesses and reinforces our understanding of the external world. But our inner environment needs attention too.

The thoughts and feelings we hold inside, they too have qualities worth exploring.

Qualities better harnessed and understood through the practice of journaling.

Ayurveda is an astonishing science that opens our senses and minds to nature. Teaching us the truth about nature and the incredible potential we hold inside us, if we care enough to look.

Journaling is a powerful tool that allows us to explore the wonderful secrets and great wisdom found in Ayurveda and in ourselves.

That’s why I created a blog combining Ayurveda and journaling and that’s why I’m so glad you’re here right now.

To me, Ayurveda and journaling are the two most valuable tools to take with you on this journey through life, and it’s my heart’s desire to share them with you.

  • Take your notebook and pen.

5 mins - Calm your mind, be present

To begin with, spend a few minutes writing about your immediate sensory experience and surroundings. Writing should be specific, descriptive, and done with mindful awareness.

10 mins - Lose yourself in the mind

In what ways are you similar to nature?

Are  you quick thinking and changeable like the wind? Do you burn brightly with the passion of the sun? Or are you strong and dependable like a mountain?

What aspects of nature are calling you right now?

Try drawing or doodling too, if that appeals to you.

5 mins - Reflect on what you’ve written

Reread everything you’ve written. While reading, observe the tone and emotion in your writing. Make further written notes underneath or beside what is already written to aid your reflections.

Note: Journaling often stirs emotion so don’t be afraid if you touch on something that makes you feel a certain way. Allow whatever comes up to pass freely and without judgement.
