Letter Journal

(expressing emotions, heartfelt writing)

Write letters to yourself, a friend, or even someone imaginary. It’s a way to say things from your heart.

This is a lot like a Classic Diary, one of the oldest and most recognizable forms of journaling, usually written in a dated format with “Dear Diary…” entries.

Journaling Prompts:

  • Write a letter to your younger self—what kind or helpful words would you share with them?

  • Write a letter to your future self—what hopes or dreams do you want them to remember?

  • Write a letter to someone you miss—what would you like to tell them today?

  • Write a letter to a part of yourself that feels sad, scared, or left out—what does it need to hear?

  • Write a letter of forgiveness—to yourself or someone else. How might this make you feel lighter?

  • Write a letter saying thank you to someone who has made a difference in your life.

  • Write a letter to worry, fear, or doubt—what would you like to tell it or ask it to do?

  • Write a letter to joy or happiness—what does it feel like, and how can you invite more of it?

  • Write a letter to someone you look up to—what do you admire about them, and what could you try to learn from them?

  • Write a letter to your body—thank it, ask it questions, or just listen to what it wants to say.

  • Write a letter to an ending in your life—say goodbye to a friendship, season, or chapter.

  • Write a letter to love—how does it show up in your life, and what do you want it to be?
